Just wondering how many people here hunt out of boats and if so what type of boat do you use?

I used to own a 17' St-Lawrence duck boat but sold it a few years ago. It was great but hated the maintenance on a firbreglass boat. Especially after beating it up evey fall against rocks etc...

I am now in the process of researching my next boat and just wondered what people were using.

I just bought a duck boat last night just could not pass it up i got a tracker 1648 ie 16ft long 48in wide it has a home made blind done in fast grass with a Merc 25hp Bigfoot hoping to sell the motor and put a mud motor on it should kill some ducks i think the most inportin thing to look for is that the boat is all welded as rivits will leak after time after looking at boats for the last 6months if u want somthing ayear or two old with a 20-35hp and over 14ft u will spend 10,000 after all is said and done anything less then that for a compleat rig is the going rate try to find a boat motor at a dealershipthat is not there brand you can get a better deal Tim

Tim , why would you want a mudmotor? I can understand if you lived down south and had miles upon miles of swamp with mud flats. I had a 40hp on my old boat and could get in prettry shallow with it.

I'm just wonder if it's worth sacraficing open water motoring(st-lawrence, ottawa river and l.ontario) vs back water hunting, which up here does not last long because we freeze up so quick.

 i have used them down in NY and can think of a lot of places up here where one would be great , i dont fish and want a duck boat ,most trips in a boat are short late season just think it would be nice motoing along and not worry about taking the lower end out i think a mud motor would be a better way to go might not be the best boat for all hunting but should keep me in birds Tim
