Hey all,

I was wondering if those of you that are using topper's on your truck have figured out what kind of fuel mileage that topper is costing you? I have heard that they affect your mileage quite considerably and was wondering if this is true? If so how many MPG are you losing because of it?

Just looking at options...

Drew with the ford i don't recomend one as you are already over your payload with the crates and the dogs in the box.

I havn't noticed much of a change on my new truck 2010 dodge 2500 cummins but on the old gas truck I was getting 11-12 mpg on a good day.

our ford (first on race day) f150 went from 20mpg to 12mpg. It had over 300,000 km when I gave it away it now has over 400

Drew,

We had the same experience as Dave. Our GMC 1/2 ton went from 22 to 12 once we put the topper on. To be fair, we added 3 inches in head room inside the topper so that makes an extra 3 inches for wind resistance. we are getting a heavy duty half this summer. Hopefully with the better engine and tranny that will help the gas mileage or at least keep it closer.

All boxes added on to your truck will affect gas mileage.

I keep a pretty close look at mine, just arrived in Fl. which was 1393 miles(2228 km's). With my 6 litre Ford 250 diesel my mileage for the whole trip was 19.13 m/p/g.It was as low as 16.7 and as high as 21.2 over different sections. Temperature and hills vs flat driving have a lot to do with it.

I was packed for an extended stay. My truck has a chasis mount on it with Michelin MS 2 tires.

Take a close look at the tires you put on the truck-heavy/big lug tires affect your gas mileage in a negative way for sure!

When I had just a topper on it, the mileage was better.
