Due to the change in CKC rulings that you must be a (Canadian) CKC member (or pay the appropriate fee) in order to take a placing at a CKC event, please remember to put your CKC membership number on your entry form, so that Field Trial Secretaries will know that you are eligible to win a placing. It is not the job of the Field Trial Secretary to monitor this, but it would make life a lot easier. So either use the new form on the CKC website (if you can read it - I can't) or just put your number on the entry form somewhere. Thanks.

Thanks for this reminder Jill. Anything that can be done to make the job of the trial secretary easier is always appreciated.

Does the owner have to a CKC member if your dog in being campaigned? Will the dog still get the credit if the person campaigning the dog is a CKC member?

Not sure exactly what you mean by campaigning. If you mean that someone else is running your dog, then let's deal with that. The person running the dog does not have to be a CKC member, but the owner does. If you co-own the dog with someone else, one of those people must be a CKC member.
If you mean that a pro is running your dog, it doesn't help you if the pro is a CKC member, because he/she is not the owner. This does not apply to Americans, but if you are the sole owner of the dog, then you must be a CKC member in order to acquire a placing OR, once you have won a placing, they offer you a payment scheme that is the equivalent of being a member. They don't say how much that payment is, but I'm assuming it must be relatively close to CKC membership fees or why bother doing all this?

Jill, do you have to get the membership once you place or once you apply for a title? I believe this is going to be discussed at the directors meeting, but people may want to contact their region director on this issue.

If people are using a computer entry, maybe they could just put there CKC number after their Jane.
i.e. Shirley Greener - 00000

So if you enter a trial, pay your entry fee and your dog gets first place what happens. If your not a CKC member and you don't want to pay the fee.Does the second place dog move up??Kind of a crappy way to get first. The trial entry form looks more and more like my natural gas bill every day with all of the fees (Entry fee,CKC fee, stakeout fee etc............)Some clubs are dropping CKC and moving to AFTCA but the field trials are pocket money to CKC their focus has always been dog shows.

I think I went over all this earlier but the CKC intends to look at every entry of every CKC trial and if they find someone who placed and is not a CKC member (and is Canadian and wholly owns the dog that placed), they will offer you an equivalent to a membership (whatever that means) or you can just become a member. What they seem to be trying to avoid is stipulating that you MUST be a member before you run. That is not the case but what they ARE saying is that you can't place unless you pay more money, either with this one-time fee or by becoming a member. Yes, they are going over it again at the next Director's meeting but, for now, this is how it stands. The ruling is supposed to be as of Jan. 1, 2011, so will affect Niagara's trial, which is why I have tried to understand what the heck they're talking about.

if you check the ckc websire ckc.ca there is a posting for Jan 11 that explains the Canadian non member participation fee. It is equivalent to the ERN (event registration number) which is $57.60 according to the fee schedule. Think a membership is a little cheaper.
