Hey gang,
I read about this the other day in the newspaper but forgot to mention it. Purina is now offering pet health care insurance. Unlike the other one's that are out there this one actually include's routien vet visits in the plan PLUS all medication and vac's!!
I just did a quick quote and it is a little on the pricey side ( 59.99/m for the best plan) I am going to do a little more digging on this...

Drew I don't know but I don't carry insurance and never have. Being a kennel you would think I would have a vet bill out of this world but on average $200.00 a year after yearly shots . The rest is eyes hips checked or females checked that are in for breeding. At one point I had 10 - 12 dogs now 4 so I don't see the need for insurance if you look after your dogs and I know you can run into bad luck. I think from what I have seen over the years that some just let their dogs run all over the place and getting in to things that they either eat or run on to (glass roads or what ever ) If you treat your dogs like your kids you don't need insurance.( I should say most parents)Terry

My advice is pet insurance the first year. It so helped us out. As many of you have heard we lost our first pup after 2 weeks... We shelled out approx 2000 to save him. After our pet insurance kicked in we ended up paying only about 20% of that amount. So worth it. We canceled it after a year with the new pup. IMHO it was a worthwhile investment. we went with Securican (formerly PetPLAN) and it was like 32 a month. That was for a pretty comprehensive plan... though there was another one that covered everything.. I think it was about 50 a month too.
I have Petplan insurance and only took the basic which covers accidental injuries or if they eat something that makes them sick. It costs about $12/month. I was going to leave it on and seen what happens this fall. This is my first hunting dog and I wan't sure what to expect.

Read about Purina also. Looks like their deductible is really high. Best to compare several companies. Check www.vetinsurance.com They're now in the US as well as Canada, with a lifetime coverage of $20,000 and no deductible.:spoton: They also cover damage done (by the pet) to rental property. Check for further details, and good luck with whichever one you choose!
