Hey,
I got up this morning at 5:30 and headed out for a light training session with my girl. I have slowly been working myself back into the swing of things as I have not really felt like doing much since putting Diesel down 3 weeks ago.
Well I loaded up Mercedes and the headed out the door to a huge hay field that I regularly train in. I did not have anything special in mind today I just wanted to do some simple marks with her.
Once I got there I noticed the farmer had cut 3/4 of the field and the other 1/4 was still dense cover. Well one of the biggest hurdles I have been fighting with Mercedes is when a mark is thrown into tall cover and she starts out in light cover she has always had an issue with starting her hunt WAY WAY to early. She would always slow down slightly when transistioning from light to heavy cover and always start her hunt almost as soon as entering the cover.
So I set up both winger's this morning in the heavy cover and set up the line 100 yards back. The line that she had to take was 40 yards of light cover then 60 yards of Med-dense cover. Well the first few went just like I expected but suddenly on the 3 or 4th bumper it was like a light went off in her head. She charged straight thru the transision with no signs of slowing down and nailed the mark!!! She did this 6 or 7 times after it before I decided to end the sessionh on a high note.
Well that was just what the doctor ordered for me, as soon as she nailed that bumper for the first time I realized that there is life after Diesel and the empty hole that has filled my heart for the last 3 weeks suddenly started to fill up with pride and accomplishment. I was reminded why I chose to do this in the first place.....
For the love of the dogs
