View Full Version : Name Suggestions
Hello everyone, I am new to this site. I have read many peoples comments in the past and feel there is some good advice to be had here.
I am on a waiting list for a new puppy to be born in mid July from Prairiestorm Kennels in Saskatoon. The litter should be all yellow and my first choice is for a male if the temperment is correct (I will take a female with no problems if I need to).
I have 2 questions to ask.
1. Does anyone have any suggestions for the registered/call name?
(I am thinking of Prairiestorm's Thunderstruck...call name Tanner after the parents named Tansy and Cruiser).
2. Does anyone know anything about Prairiestorm Kennels dogs? I found a few reviews that were really good and didn't see anything that was negative about them.
Any and all opinions are appreciated!

Hey Jim
If you watch the pro golf on T.V. you might recall the name Rory McIlroy who won the U.S. open
RORY is a good call name for a Labrador
It has that Irish sporting sound to it!
Thanks for the suggestion Dooley. I would like to stay along the lines of something to do with the kennel name Prairiestorm if I can....either related to something in the prairies or storms in general.

Go back in the pedigree line and pull out some names there and add it to your main name. Good luck

Welcome aboard Jim.
I think the name you've picked is pretty fitting. I like to have a few in mind, then get a pick of your pup and it becomes a little easier.
Good luck!
Thanks Winston.
Some other thoughts for the registered name are Four on The Floor, Pull the Trigger (from AC/DC), Morning Mist, Smoke on The Water, Triple Threat or Morning Flights. The problem I have is coming up with a call name to go with any of them.

Pull the Trigger (from AC/DC) - "Angus"
A friend 3 houses down from me has a beautiful Golden named Angus. I am not sure how she would react if I called the new pup Angus as well. I really like the sound of the name though! Maybe I will bounce the idea off of her and get her reaction.
Thanks Andrew.

If you wind up with a female, your suggestion of Morning Mist would go with the call name 'Dawn'
Prairiestorm's Shoot to Thrill - 'Fire'
Prairiestorm's About to Rock - 'Salute'
Prairiestorm's Money Talks - Banker
Thanks Burly Girl, those are great suggestions! I will keep them in mind.

Prairiestorm's Dust Devil - call name Twister
Again, thanks for the suggestions! These are all great ideas. I will attempt to include a small picture of the parents here.17961797
I just received that there were 9 pups born yesterday (6 males and 3 females). They should be ready to go home around Labor Day weekend. I think it will be a busy and fun fall this year!

Congratulations on your new puppy Jim; I think you have some wonderful name suggestions to think about. A ouple of things to bear in mind if the dog is going to be for hunting or trialling - names beginning with "S" or "B" can be problematic because of "Sit" and "Back"; likewise any names rhyming with these.
Thanks Twentypaws. I am looking forward to training a new dog that has a lot more drive. Staying away from a name that is similar to any command is a good idea. For some reason I like idea of a 2 syllabel name. I have read that some people prefer a one syllabel name.

We are a 2 syllable household as well (Dinah, Chockee, Fiddler, Summer, Callie, Burly, Willow, Rhumba, etc). We have had one dog named Crash and one named Duende. Duende got familiarized into "Duey" most of the time, and "Due" at other times. She knew it was her. But the two syllables, IMO, gives the dog a better chance to hear it. However, instead of sending Burly on her whole name (because we currently have two dogs in the house whose names end in an EEE sound), I give it oomph and send her on a quick, "Burl!" when doing field. When doing obedience trials, her commands are always preceded by her full "Burly" ("Burly come!", "Burly heel", etc).
Excellent advice...Thanks Burlygirl.
The pups were born last Saturday...6 males and 3 females. They are about 5 days old in the picture. Time for the longest 7 or 8 weeks of the summer here!

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I ended up going with Prairiestorm's Shoot to Thrill, call name Tanner.
