I have run into a little problem in training my 16 week old pup. She was doing great with her single throws retrieving everything throwen for her by me and my wife. Now she wont retrieve anything for me just my wife. I have started training her a little harder expecting more on leash then pulling and jumping up has that crossed over into her retrieving training

I'm no expert field trainer but I am a trainer/behaviourist. It's not unusual when the training gets a little more "work" like for the pup to say, "pee on this, you're no fun anymore!". Maybe take the wife out of the picture for a while, so if the pup enjoys the retrieving as much as I'm sure she does, you become the only source of it. Obviously she should be on a line so you can gently reinforce her coming back. But keep it super fun, run around like an idiot, play. :bf_new: Maybe in between your on leash training session do some fun stuff with the bumpers. Show her daddy can still be fun, the only difference is there are rules to the fun! She'll come back around, just back off for a bit.

May I ask how you are leash training her?

Sure Case i have trained obedience to many dogs of my own and most of my friends dogs. I am not a intense trainer or harsh trainer i laugh at myself most of the time i train. thanks for the advice i already told the wife she needs to step back for awhile but this is her dog that she wants to run in Hunt Tests so could be tough on the wife lol .

Now that's interesting! Well, either she's "hired" you on as the experienced trainer and she has to step back or she does all the training. First time I've heard of that situation.Don't have that problem at my house; my husband can't stand dogs.:fencing:

Slow down and keep things fun, there is LOTS of time for serious training later. You can teach them a lot about this game while keeping it fun for the dog. Once you take the fun of it away from a young dog you are way behind the 8 ball.

I know she is young but i have young kids and cant allow the jumping up it had to stop and it is. It is all about having fun with retrieving thats why i asked what i could do to get her to do it for me and not just the wife. Never had to worry about this before this is the first pup she has showen interest in training.

Well why not help your wife train it ?
I wish my wife wanted a dog to train, except the visa would take a beating with all the new stuff I'd have to get.
