Sept 25 timber hunt

I went to the flooded timber hole I scouted last week. It was a solo hunt, just me and the dog. I finished setting decoys a bit later than I would have like as ducks sailed overhead just before legal shooting time. The morning was foggy and the birds were moving low through the trees. Logan sat in the grass and me on a fallen log overlooking an opening in the timber canopy. I was very selective not to shoot into bigger flocks since I want to head back this week. I picked away at singles and doubles, most flocks fly through and even land undisturbed just feet from my. By 9am I had passed on dozens of birds and as were coming in larger groups. I packed up the decoys, arranged a bit better place to hide for this week and got out quickly to let the birds settle in for the afternoon. Logan worked great through the timber and we finished the day with a pair of wood ducks, a pair of mallards and a teal.

Good to see you smiling again! Nice looking hunting spot. Great dog there....enjoy the time in the field together, as thats what the work is really about.

It sounds like you had a GREAT morning! Great pictures too! It would be nice if all waterfowl hunters had the patience like you to be selective on your shots and not disturb the larger groups! It would be much better hunting for everyone if more people hunted the way you do....(no sky-busters)! Keep up the good job and enjoy your season.
