Hey,
Just finished reading the article in the latest Ontario out of Doors about waterfowl hunting at Luther and got me thinking that I have been to Luther and Tiny marsh many times running hunt tests but never hunted there.
How many here hunt these areas and what is it like? Is it worth a road trip of say 4 hours for a Friday Saturday hunt? For those of you that hunt these areas when is the best time of year to hunt them.
In the article it mentions areas that require boats (no problem) and another are that requires a dog(no problem) are these areas walkin spots or boats as well?
Any feedback from anyone that hunts there would be great.

Never hunted there, but would like to... Regards.

I have not personally hunted Luther but have had several friends hunt there, with great success and some not. All this becasuse they had no means of scouting before they went. If your schedule allows for a last minute hunt I would have a friend in the area keep an eye out on the birds that way at least you'll know there are birds around. Whether you shoot any is a different story. Either way I'm sure you'll have a great time shoot'n the s**t with your pals in the blind.

If I recall correctly you can only hunt ducks 4 days of the 7 and two of them are on the week-end.
I was wondering the same thing about Luther, I didn't realize it was that big.

That is correct it is only 4 days a week and there is a fee that you have to pay in order to get in. Well it's a honir system you drop the money in a box. I was looking at going up last season and i was told that if you do not scout the place out you wont be very sucessful. These words came from a buddy who has property up there and knows the area fairly well.

I have hunted there for awhile now and I'll give you one piece of advice......"DO NOT HUNT THERE ON OPENING DAY"
That place is like a war zone....guys are sky blasting at everything, people will setup practically right beside you and they don't care about safety. 85% of the people on opening day can't speak english and have no ethics.
I swore to myself, I'll never hunt there opening week again. It just gets worse and worse.
But, that is just my experience....if you can deal with the yahoos.....then it is a great place.....but the yahoos, just make my blood boil!!!! :strangle:

Isn't there areas with posted blind locations though, should keep people from setting up too close.

Sorry.....my experience was only at Luther Marsh.
I've never heard of posted blinds up there......but they may have them and I just don't know about them.

Kev there are only parking spot stakes no blind stakes it is basically a free for all at luther I agree with Rocko I won't hunt opening day there again to many
opening day warriors who will shoot at a duck at 1200 ft high I have seen a couple of guy's right at the launch use a box of shells at passing birds with no way to retrieve them if they ever hit anything. If you wanted to head up there let me know and we could hook up I know a couple sweet spots.
