Ok, my girlfriend got her hunting license and PAL. Now, she wants to go and buy a shotgun. What would be the best gun to get her? She is only 5'2".

I was thinking a youth model 20 gauge 870 express Remmington.

Thats a good choice for sure, the Remingtom 870's are bullet proof !! I have had one for 20 years now and it has yet to give me a single problem. My father's 870 is around 35 years old and again no problems.

I love my 870 and will have it forever but I am upgrading to a Berretta Extrema II or a SBEII this year. I just want something different.

Remington 870's are a great gun. Can't go wrong there. No issues with mine...I have the Super Magnum Express 12 guage chambered for 2 3/4, 3 and 3 1/2 inch. It's my turkey and duck gun. Love it. Just like DD though, I want to upgrade for something differant, a nice over under that I can take to the skeet club.

Great, thanks guys!! I'm just alittle worried it might be hard for her to hit ducks with that gun.
LeBarons is selling it for $368.00.....maybe they'll still offer no tax this weekend...ha ha ha, ya right!!!

Play around with the chokes. Open it up a bit. Or go to a 16 gauge.

The 870 is a good choice but I think a 20 gauge auto loader would be a better one, less felt recoiland she doesn't have to reach out as far to hold the forend. This will make shooting much more enjoyable at the beginning for her, also make sure the gun fits properly, this can make a huge difference.

Hope this Helps Tim

The youth model would be a good choice if she has a limited reach since the gun is made for younger people with shorter reaches. A youth model in adult arms might not shoulder good and it is more important to have a smooth move to shoulder then it is to have a little gun. A 20ga or even a 28 would make a nice light gun however if you intend to hunt ducks and geese with her, Ild stay in a 12ga and maybe look at an auto loader.

Good luck

I use a Weatherby Orion 20 gauge and it handles great. I did have the stock modified to suit my face/pull etc. Sharon

I don't think in this situation I would look at the pricetag first... Keep your thoughts on making this a pleasant experience...

I agree with a semi, as opposed to pump for no other reason that recoil... Have her try a normal model, and youth model, and see what pulls up better...

my wife luvs her 1187,she fires 3in mags at ducks and geese with no probs. and 2 3/4's at the trap club with no probs.we had the stock cut down to fit her and a nice cushie recoil pad put on.she has fired thousands of rounds through it and says she hasn't felt a thing.

Thanks for the info people!! I totally agree with an auto-loader.....especially the 11-87 because that is what I shoot.

One of the reason we are going with a cheaper gun is because she will only probably use it 6 or 7 times a season(if that).......plus only if the weather is still nice!!! LOL.

If she's only going to use it once in a while, all the more reson to make it a pleasant experience...

If someone will use something OFTEN they adapt to the fit, and feel, whereas if she's not using it regularily it would be much more difficult for her!
