Does everyone know about Onions ? One of my owners Brittanys Died because of Onion Posioning. Onions are toxic to dogs. Onion toxicity causes a Heinz body anemia and makes the Red Blood Cells rupture prematurely. Some can recover to a point if it is caught Fast with Meds but if not and they don't die right away it will weaken their Kidneys and Liver and then could die later of Liver Failure like Sasy did. Her owner didn't know that she ate a pile of Fried Onions that where dumbed by a Tree at a cook out , till he got a Doggie kiss and she smelled like Onions. At the Time he didn't know Onions where deadly. Well it was about the 3rd day later she was deathly ill. Blood Tests confirmed by the lab analysis, predicted either onion or Tylenol poisoning (which results in the condition called Heinz-body anemia). My Owner was able to confirm that she had eaten a pile of onions. She recovered but never was the same again. Then about 2 years later Sassy Died . Sassy's liver had been deteriorating, unbeknown to any of us, for quite awhile, and finally reached the critical stage. Her regular annual checkups never revealed anything. A liver function test might have revealed an indication of the early onset of the condition. However, there's no reason to conduct such a blood test on an otherwise healthy animal. Even if we had discovered the problem earlier, it's debatable if the process could have been reversed short of a liver transplant.
So please don't give Onions to your dogs!!!
If they get Onions and get the Toxic Poisioning , seek Help right away. If they recover , then have regular Liver and Bloodwork Tests down to monitor their Health After that.
