Thanks for posting. Was this at a hunt test or regular training? Where did you get your dog?

No this was during her training. We started her late (3 years old). It took a total of two and a half months to get her to point and retrieve. I have hunted over her twice since the trainer finished her. She was perfect. We got her from a GSP breeder in Etobicoe, Toronto. She comes from a hunting blood line that the trainer was very impressed with. She is fantastic!! Butch.

Appears to be a Redstag pedigree?

If it's one of Des' breedings , I'm not surprised she has been a fast learner. Redstag Kennels produces wonderful GSPs. That's definately where I'd be looking.
I need another life to enjoy all the dogs and events that I'd like to.
One life for JRT trialing, another one for GSP - NAVHDA, and the one I'm enjoying now with setters. Oh yeh, I'd need one more life for a Springer Spaniel and flushing trials.:bigrin

Yes she is a Redstag. We got her from Des 3 years ago. I wanted to train her when she first came home but work commitments didn't allow it. Starting in May of this year my wife drove her and my lab to Metcalfe every day for training. I joined the NSTRA because of the trainers affiliation. My GSP ran two braces before she was force broke. I wanted to see what level she was at and it gave the trainer a chance to see exactly what to work on. It was great fun. Looking forward to hunting at the Clayton Bird farm this fall. Are there any other area's around the Ottawa area? Thank you in advance. Butch

I love NSTR trials. Unfortunately we don't have any around London that I am aware of. Be careful at Game Farms as the birds often don't flush well.

Yeah you are right case. During her training the handler was using only male quail and chuckars. His reasoning was that the females he had were full of eggs and tended not to fly after the flush. He put pheasant out for me on the weekend with 3 chuckars. He wasnt sure how she would do with the bigger bird. She locked on to the pheasant first. she was approx 15m from it when I went in for the flush. It sprang up and I made a quick shot. My GSP was onto it picked it up and brought it back. She kind of had that look like"what the hell is this big bird?" She brought it to hand and was off again. The rest of the birds were no problem. The hunt was over a little quicker then I would of liked. Shes bird crazy.

Do you release her to pick up the bird or does she just go? For safety's sake it's good to teach her to sit until you send her to pick up the bird. Sounds like you're having lots of fun. Congrats. on the good work.

If you go to hullet or fingal the pheasants come from the same breeders that supply game farms. We have had great luck with our birds. As for the NSTRA TRIALS steady to the flush is all that is needed as the dogs that are winning don't want to lose time.\

Hey Big Bird I thought the same thing when I looked at the head, like King's. I am running my pup in NA this weekend in Montreal, Bill is there all weekend judging.
