Wiley's second trial looked a whole lot like his first. He started his puppy brace with a decent break away and good forward race. He got ahead of the pointer puppy wearing the tracking collar and let it trail him for a while until he opened up and left the pointer behind.
His derby run went a bit different than last week. Big break away and huge forward race until he was gone. We were good for the first 15 minutes and then I lost him. 12 minutes later I found him back exactly where I had lost him. He didn't make the turn in the course and kept going straight. When he didn't hear me anymore, he came back looking for me and then waited. Judge told me when you lose your dog, best thing you can do is keep going and hope he shows up in front. Didn't work out that way this time but maybe it would on a different day?
When I found him he looked pretty hot so I picked him up and watered him. No sense running him at that point. He only had 2 hours to rest between his puppy and derby braces, so I was really watching him close for heat stress.
Anyway, We didn't finish the derby with another placement but he did get another 1st in the open puppy. At least we are gaining some experience running in the horseback trials and I get to brag a bit about the Brittany that could beat some longtails. I managed to get a couple pics of the grounds after we were done.
