I envy all you people who seem to find places to hunt geese. Everywhere I go I am denied, most often because some else is hunting there or the farmer had a bad experience with a hunter. Have a good season folks, keep it legal.

Spear, most place want the geese hunted, but your right, if they are hunting the fields they might not want others. Have you tried hunting the water, no one can stop you out there after openning. what kind of gear do you have? (boat, decoys, tarps ect,,,) You can also put an add in the paper asking to hunt with someone in your area! Dont give up, there has to be a place for you to hunt. maybe someone on this board would like to have you come out, where do you live, and how far will you drive?

Spear , I guess it all depends where you are from. I noticed that people have a lot harder time securing fields to hunt in southern Ontario. Where are you located?

Yes I am a city boy in SW Ontario. I have a goose chair, and some old wooden silos that have been effective but a bugger to haul around. I no longer have a water dog, I have a pointer. Most of the geese around here are heading to the safe security of those new municipal storm sewer drainage resevoirs. Lots of geese there. I will keep knocking on doors.

Where do people hunt over water?

SW, is large, so we still don't know where you are! I live in Gananoque (1000Islands) water all around me. If you are the shy type, finding a place to hunt might be hard, open up a bit and tell us more about yourself.

Hunting water takes a bit of scouting, look for bays where the birds can get out of rough weather and wind, geese are vegetarians and will feed in shallow water. Also look for old & new blinds, they will tell you your in the right area, make sure you don't hunt to close to another hunter, that can be very serious to most hunters. Once you find a spot, set up and hunt. after the first week of opening you can hunt anyone's blind if you get there first, but its best to build your own.

Where I live, Tim Horton's at 4:am will be full of local hunters, most of us will share our knowledge on where the birds are flying. Its also a great way to meet other hunters!
I do not reccomend hunting alone, always bring a friend even if they dont hunt!

Thanks Huntmaster. Sounds like you have a good thing going there. I live in London Ont. I generaly hunt with my cousin. He has a good water dog I have a pointer for upland game. We enjoy both. We have decided to make a concerted effort to find places and it will take time and being shy about it is not going to help, you are right. Most areas here that have hunters on the land already and have been hunting that land since their father took up hunting 20 years ago. So you leave them alone. Hunting the water might just be the ticket. Around here people seem to keep quiet about where they hunt. It must be that good hunting locations are scarce.

London Ont, Nice clean city, did some highway work there years ago. You got water all around you. Thames River runs right through London. Owen Sound is not far from you and should have great hunting, real cottage country!
Lake St. Clair (Shrewsbury) is a bit of a drive for you, but should be great hunting to!
Good luck with your search, Im sure you will find some great spots, if your ever down this way looking, give me a call, Ill point you to several good spots!
Tom. welcomeani

LOL, yes the Thames does run right through town here and believe me if I could hunt the river I would. The other suggestions are good ideas and worth checking out, thanks. And if I am ever out Gananoque way I will call you up for directions.
