View Full Version : Decoy Ratios?
Hey There,
I just got a box of 20 decoys from BPS for 59 bucks. I'm not fully sold on these they look a little shiny to me.
But it came with 12 decoys that can be used in the field (Removable Keels)
2 feeding decoys
and
10 regular water decoys.
My question is it seems that the ratio of hens and drakes are way off.
In the field decoys I got 8 drakes and 4 hens.
Is it better to have more drakes than hens in your set up?

Good price on the coys, $3. each. I like at lease two hens to every drake, but have hunted over mostly drakes before and still did ok. Ive also seen several drakes fly together and also hens with no drakes. So not sure if it matters, but more hens is the way I would go! Just my thoughts!

The drakes are easier for the pirds to see than the hens... I wouldn't worry about it, don't think the ducks really care that much as to "what" is there...
Good to hear thanks guys :)
I now have a a dozen mallards to add to my field set up for the opener :)
See I bought this to add to my field set up.. So I was a little disappointed to see water decoys mixed in with them.
I'm gonna go back and see if they are all supposed to have removable keels.
OH! I forgot to mention the box came with a spool of decoy cord and a decoy bag. I'm sure they aren't the highest quality but still a nice :)

link to these decoys?
Water decoys work fine in fields, it's what we (EricB and I) used last year, you just prup one side up a little...
This is the link to the decoy..
They are selling for 39 US for a set of six. Hopefullly they aren't the ones that all the paint peels off LOL!

Just got back from business in the Detroit area. Gander Mountain in Sterling Heights has mallard decoys on for $19.99 per dozen. I bought two dozen.
Great price for training if nothing else. ( I'm back to the same area on Monday and will post a report on the Grand!!!-- Good luck to the Canadian Guys and their dogs!!)
