I gotta say, if at all possible we need to support the local economy as much as possible... with a good possibility of an American recession (Thanks Daddy Bush), our will be coming down with it... I feel it's important to help support our economy, and the cost of a couple $$ more...
If the product is simply not available, then the U.S I shall go ;)

Not to make you feel bad but, in some provinces (ontario especially) a weak USD means BAD news for manufacturing and exports. Now it's no longer "cheap" for US companies to have offices or manufacturing here.
I'd love to see a 80 cent dollar again!

Golden is correct, especially in Ontario, a lot of Paper, a lot of Car making... not good.
Yeh while there are some products I'll probably order just because the dollar is cheap. I would sooner see a stronger US dollar than a recession.

I've just adjusted my pricing to the strong Canadain dollar. I still make the same profit margin, and just pass on the savings to the Candian consumer who has been getting screwed for the past 20 years.

The greenback will bounce back, it won't take long. As for manufacturing, it too will bounce back. I have been buying US cash to hang on to, as well all my investments are getting adjusted accordingly.
A co-workers father just went to the states and bought a new truck and boat, saved thousands, even with duty.

I don't think a lot of people understand how much this will effect our economy, People will end up losing their jobs here.
My uncle worked in a factory in Mississauga printing bags and labels.
After 35 years with the company, they end up closing the business. 800 employees GONE. The company opened 2 plants, one in Mexico and the other in China.
Cheaper wages and cheaper material..
Don't get me wrong, we can buy a lot stuff from Cabela's, travel to the US but in the long run not good for our economy. Lets hope that what ever happen in the US does not happen here or a lot people will be up s---- creek.
See how many for closures there are in the US?
Just like 3 Blacks dogs mention about the GM Plant in Oshawa, what did they say, thousand or so jobs by the end of 2008.
I work in the bank, and I printed up some rates that went back to the 80's. I could not believe when I saw the Prime rate @ 22.50%, lets hope this does not happen again...
