Has anyone had opinions/experience of Actrium Holistic. I have been feeding Eagle Pack holistic and while I certainly have no complaints about the food itself, the cost is almost prohibitive.
I read the ingredients of the Actrium Holistic today and if they are quality ingredients it looks pretty good and the price does too.

I know its a Walmart brand so there has to be a catch right?

There's a really good site for comparing different dog foods, the only thing missing is the costs! Unfortunately I couldn't find Actr1um on there but you may be able to analyze the ingredients yourself after looking at some other brands. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/

One of my puppy buyers feeds her bitch Orijen, which is an amazing food, pretty much as good as kibble gets, there's just no way I can afford to feed it to 7 dogs.

I feed my guys the Kirkland brand chicken and rice from Costco. The ingredients are exceptional and it's extremely affordable. They're all doing great on it (4 Tollers, a 15 year old mutt, 10 year old Boxer, Ridgeback puppy and an 8 year old Lab that lives with me, although the older dogs are on the senior variety). Several people I know have switched their dogs to it as well and have no complaints. The chicken is higher in fat than the lamb, better for performance dogs. Might be worth looking into.

tollergirl.
from looking at the various websites it seems that this Actr1ium has few of the bad things and most of the good. I spend $70 a bag on my current dog food including tax. I originally wanted food that stayed away from corn fillers, additives etc. This walmart stuff is puporting to do just that. I will also checkout kirkland.

thanks!

How much is it for what sized bag? Do you have a list of the ingredients?
I pay about $22 for a 40 lbs bag of Kirkland.

we feed a raw diet but when on the road or in the states we feed Orijen as Toller Girl said it is the best out there and our dogs do well on it it has a high protein level as close to the raw diet as you can get with a kibble.

I have tried a few different foods. I know there are many that say garbage in garbage out...you get what you pay for etc. And by and large those opinions are correct. But the way I look at dog food is how my dog performs on it. Cost for me isn't a concern because I have one dog and go through a bag of food every 2 months. I switched from Eagle Pack to the food I use now and my dog has tons of energy, a nice coat and is fit. I noticed an improvement in his coat when I switched from Eagle to my current food which is Ultra Advantage, and the cost of a bag went from $70 to $26 for a 50lb bag. Now I have to drive about 40 mins one way to get a bag, but like I said its only once every other month so its no big deal.
I was a bit skeptical at first as corn is listed second on the ingredient list, but I can't argue with the results I see in my dog. I guess what I'm trying to say is why not give this new food a shot if you think its worth it? Try it for a couple bags, and if your pup is looking good on it, then keep feeding it, if not look for something else. But you may want to wait till after hunting season to switch.

Verno,
I'm gonna give the Actr1um a try. I I'l mix it in with her current food over the next month or so and see how she goes on it after that. At $30 dollars for 15KG its a big saving.

3 black dogs,
I feed raw one, sometimes two days a week. If I could get a good supply of raw I'd feed all the time. In England my terries lived on a diet of green tripes, other offal and they would share a sheeps head (halved) about once a week. They were a picture of health and vitality. I can't seem to get supplys of tripe where I'm at unfortunately.
I'd be interested to know what raw food your dogs meals are made up of.

thanks guys.

Warren our dogs diet is a aufill 60/40 chicken mix with jucied veggies every 3rd day added they get a salmon oil capsule daily and a high end powdered multi suppliment once a day we have a supplier for tripe so we buy about 80lbs at a time and they get that atleast once every second week. they also get beef knuckles bones to chew on once a week. They also get sardines every now and then.

For a supplier of good raw food you can try mountain dog food they have ready made stuff available and it is priced not to bad.
