Well.... was not a failure...was a partial success. Chris and I spent the better part of 6 hours tracking around Hullett yesterday. Nothing.... until the last 20 minutes we were there. Machaceh and Sheena were runnin' around sniffing stuff out... all of sudden... Mac heard or smelled something and he bolted to the right and into a tall bit of brush. He stopped... pointed for a second or two and then crept forward. He pointed again and then crept again... then tore into the brush and he either chased something around or was sniffing around for it (I am not sure which.. though I am leaning towards sniffing around. Then just a lit past where the dog was, a hen blew out of the brush and flew off. I managed a shot... but it was a ways away. So I missed it. So... as I said a partial success. I think Mac scented the bird and then it ran a little in hindsight. I am happy and I know that I just need to get him on some more birds and all will be fine.

On another note. I went out Deer hunting last night and another buddy and I called in 2 Deer. unfortunately they were behind us and picked up our scent and moved off. It was hot in that camo gear and the wind was strong... If you think a bird puts off a scent cone.. you should have smelled me after 2 hours in the hot sun with camo gear on.

So.... 6 hours of walking... one pheasant semi-pointed, 2 deer called in... I had a great day off and alot of fun hunting. I also want to thank Chris for organizing our litle pheasant hunt yesterday.. Kudos Chris.

Congrats on finding your first bird with Mac. Makes it worth it when you find at least one, even if you don't bring it home. Next time you take him there he will know that "this place has birds"

Your last comment is interesting, because the dogs were starting to get lethargic.. then after the bird.. they got interested again.. really interested I thought. It was like it clicked and they realized that there were birds there. It was cool

Nothing like finding a bird to wake up the dogs.

So how much ground did you cover? I am guessing that in 6 hours you got to explore a fair amount. No pics?

12km we walked.. GPS confirms it. Chris has the pics. He will post at some point I guess.. or I will get them and post em. Never fear.. they are on the way. I have one other comment to make... Brittany's get a lot of burrs in some of that deep stuff. I cut out a whole pile of'em from Mac yesterday.... I think i found some more that need to come out still and that was after giving him a bath as well. So if he looks "burry" in the pics.... you wil understand why

How are his feet? That could be a lot of mileage for a dog in early season before they toughen up.

Well Huntingonthebrain, my brit always gets burs and seeds embeded into his fur. Maveric told me to get some grooming stuff for horses. I went to TSC Store, they did not have it but I bought a product for horses called "Mane'n Tail". Detangler.
I sprayed that on the dog everywhere, rubbed it in, (watch the face, not there) it dried up and I thought no way this was going to work. At the end of 6 or 7 hours at Hullett my dog came out with one bur on the top of his head that I just flicked off. This stuff continued to work for a number of days and his coat feels great.

Sheena's feet are fine, they have both had a fair amount of running this summer int the fields. The day was nice. Unfortunatly a big part of our time was running around in Corn fields, that were not cut. lesson learned, trun around rather than go thru them.

I'll get the pictures up soon.
