Well, I guess it is official. My wife and I have decided to get a second dog. We are already in contact with the breeder. My wife likes the colour of a springer, I like the look and behaviour of the brittany. So the long and short of it is we are looking at getting a liver and white brittany. Katy also really wants a female. So if we can fulfill that tall order.. we will be getting a second brittany spaniel. I am so excited... I love brittanies.

Congratulations! Lucky man. Glad you're not getting a springer. You've learned so much about pointing training that it would be a shame to switch to flushers.
2 bits of advice: Don't work the 2 dogs together. Don't take the pup out for field experience with the older dog. Your pup will not become independent. It's much harder on the owner to not take them together but essential. Sometimes, I put 3 dogs in the van and go to my training spot, but work each one seperately for 20 (pup) to 60 minutes each.
Take everything you've printed out from forums, seminars books, etc and organize it in a binder. Then when you're wondering what the pup could be doing at his level or how to set up the situation for a new skill , you are all set. There is a treasure trove of good info in these forums etc. I refer to my binder regularly.
P.S. I can tell you from experience though , that 2 dogs are three times as much work as 1 dog. You need to really think this through carefully.

well it took some time to convince Katy that we didn't need a springer. She is not a hunter, so she doesn't really care if it wasn't a pointer. So hopefully if all works out.. sometime in the next 6-8 months.. maybe just maybe we wil have another brit. I am going to start earlier with training the new dog and I will definitely work them separate till I know I can trust her to do it on her own. Who knows.. it is all just a dream till it happens at this point

Congrats on a good decision. Are you using the same breeder again or are you going to look around a bit and see what is out there?

well it looks like we are on a list for next summer. That is when they expect to have another litter of liver and white pups. We have decided to go with Ataboy again. We really like Shelley and Garnett and they have been so so good to us. So I have a longer wait then I figured.. but it will go by quickly I am sure

If you are interested I know where there are some liver/white males ready to go in a few weeks from a very good breeding.
They sure are some great looking dogs. The folks are top notch as well.

That is a pretty good breeding. Jeb is one of the top dogs in Canada for field and show.

He is also the make I used with Dixie for my last litter.
I am sure they will be some pretty good puppies and their purchase price also includes one free month of training.
Jixer, I am heading to the Gun Dog Nationals on the 22nd of this month. I will be there until Friday and then heading home. Let me know if you would like to come down and watch one day through the week.

Think of this situation: Two dogs that are relatively the same age, and neither fully trained! My suggestions would be to finish training one to a standard (like CKC's FDX or NAVHDA UT) , and as your reward then get a second. You would have then proved yourself as a trainer, as well have a dog you can be proud to own. ONE good dog that will preform.
I see too many hunters in the field that can not control one dog, and you are going to have two! I doubt if you will hunt them separately. Also consider that eventually you will end up with two senior dogs that you will likely retire from hunting and need to obtain a THIRD.
Trust me ,,, I have been there , and done that. You will end up with one dog that you concentrate on and the other goes to waste or two dogs that are at best mediocar, and that is if they have good natural ability One good verstaile dog is better than two at best mediocar. After you have attempted to hunt with two dogs in the field at the same time you might to begin to understand what I am saying. You will not get twice as much game, as the field will only have so much to draw from. All you are doing is creating twice as much problems.
Good luck if this is the route you so desire!:sorry:

Well Magic (the dam) just had a litter. It was small litter which was surprising because she comes from a line of dogs that produces big litters.. this may have been her first.. anyway.. she had 1 liver and white female (I should note she had more than one pup) which is what we wanted. So sometime in June.. we will have a new dog. Soooo excited

What a sweet heart! Beautiful head markings . Great front legs . You've got yourself a great pup. That last picture is hilarious. They go until they drop, don't they?

I actually grew up with springers and have always like the colour. As an adult I have become a brittany lover and now I have one in both colours
