Has anyone had any experience with this problem in their dog(s) in the past? I have noticed the problem in Dax every few weeks or so. I intend to get him to the vet to get it checked out, but have done a bit of reading on it and saw that it can be as simple as having them drained or could be corrected by surgery. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this type of problem before.

About every four weeks with Abbie, the whole house stinks. I only got her to vet in time once. One teaspoon of bran in her food helps. That's the tip I got from my vet and several breeders. I won't do the surgery, I'll just keep doing the bath thing.

Interesting! I will give that a whirl and see if I notice any change. Thanks!

I empty my JRT's glands every couple weeks otherwise he starts draggin' his rump around. That'll be the day when I pay a vet to do it. Just one of the pleasures of owning a dog. Only have had to do this for my males. Hmmmmm:censored:

yup, you should try more fibre in the diet or a better dog food. With hard stools most should get extracted on it's own but some dogs need them expressed more than others. You can do this yourself but must warn the stench is awful. It's like a fishy smell and doesn't wash away easy. Sometimes when you do it they will express easily into a paper towel and others will explode outta there. If you are going to try definately do it outside. Go to the vet and have them do it the first time and you can watch. I believe most vets do it by going in with the finger, there is also another way to do it externally.
