Okay, I am pretty sure this is common sense knowledge to all you waterfowl hunters. Morning hunting at a place like Hullett has always been a problem. What time in the morning are you getting out to the blind for hunting on water? Do you set up decoys in the morning? I have hunted duck in the field and they are in the fields pretty early so they must leave the water at first light. I guess I am wondering what the daily routine of the ducks are. Sleep on the water at night, get food in the morning from some field, come back to the water in the evening? Any advice?

I always try to be setup about 30 minutes at least before legal shooting time in the morning. If your somewhere they come to feed they will be there before legal time quite often.
I find it pays to try and be as quiete as possible when setiing up on the water becasue you might not know where the ducks are.
If your setting up where they don't want to be as I appear to be this year then I don't think it matters.

be set up with decoys and in the blind ready to go before legel shooting time
that first half hour is the busiest time as far as birds moving, and in the lower light are easier to fool and decoy[don't forget yer call]
geese are always later than the ducks but ya really get a better crack at them[geese] when their coming back from the fields[when hunting over water]usually like 9:00ish or 10:00ish

Thats interesting. What time do other hunters leave the water. I am usually packing up around 8.30 or sooner sometimes. If I have a couple of ducks I'm happy though.

I thought ducks stayed on the water all day and left in the evening while geese did the opposite?

Where ever I'v hunted they fly in the morning and again in the evening. If your on a big body of water and there are enough spaced out hunters they keep moving around some. If you stay out all day you may get some sporadic shots. But by 9am after 3 to 4 hours on the water I'm ready to leave. I don't get that many geese roosting in the places I hunt so waiting till 10am for them to fly back after a feed is not an option.
It may be different other places.
Oh, I just read this again. "spaced out hunters" - thats not what I meant at all. LOL!
