Default youth hunt at fingal conservation area

i was more then please when asked to participate in the youth hunt at fingal conservation area again this year.this is the third year i have headed down there to handle my dog for the kids and their mentors.i would not pass this up for anything

i mentioned the event to the host of the up and coming show ,Canadian Wingshooter, and told him[ Dave Goodison] i thought it would be a good oppertunity for him to get some great content for his television series which begins to air on Wild TV some time in dec.Dave agreed and when i arrived in the morning he was all ready on hand and brought along some participants

here is a link to his web site

now it wasn't enough to have dave there with his camera, another celeb was on hand, the minister of natural resources payed us a visit as well

first thing we find dave instructing a young hunter in the operation of his over under as his mentor looks on

the men in green were on hand as well

    dave goodison goes to work

birds are loaded up to head out to the fields

representitives from pheasants forever, the federation of anglers and hunters,DU and delta waterfowl were also on hand

the apprentices recieve instruction on gun safety

then its outside for a round of trap to sharpen the shooting skills

now it's off to the field to hunt some pheasants

dave interviews the real stars of the day

i had a tremendous time once again this year and hope i get the invite back out for the next one

and a big thanks to dave goodison, the host of canadian wingshooter, for coming out and documenting the day.hopefully the exposure he may give this event may begin a snowballing of simular events across the province and get our young people involved in the outdoors

    Default five years and counting

yes five years and counting with the youth hunt at fingal . and you can`t say enough about all the people that get involved and giveing there time to put this all together and making it happen .this youth hunting program got started at fingal and has gone in all directions across this province of ontario .teaching our youths the enjoyment of getting out in the field to experience a upland hunt some for the first time .but not only that they are getting to watch a handler work his trained dog out in front of them to flush the birds and working under control alows the kids to get into a safe position to make the shot if presented to them before the dog is sent in for the flush .i know that the kids find it hard to believe what these dogs can do .but all in all its a great time and without the handlers and the dogs that show up you just can`t say enough about them and there dedication towards making this all happen .hope to see you all there again next year . so hunt smart hunt with a trained retriever .
